In terms of geography, Vaucluse is made of two separate zones on either side of the Cavaillon-Carpentras-Valréas line. To the west, you have the Rone valley and the Comtadin plains. To the east, the highlands, with the Monts de Vaucluse, the Dentelles de Montmirail, and famous Mont Ventoux.
The climate is Mediterranean. Summers are warm and dry, especially in the plains, with average temperatures of 30° C. Winter temperatures are fairly cold, with temperatures of 5°C. The Mistral wind is another distinctive characteristic of climate in Vaucluse. The Mistral blows an average of 120 days per year in the Rhone valley and 70 days in the Comtadin plains. This beneficial wind clears and dries the atmosphere and leaves the sun to shine some 2800 hours per year !
